The Forest Park Hotel

Nestling on the upper edge of the mountain village of Platres, The Forest Park Hotel is one of the oldest hotels in this popular mountain resort. The Forest Park Hotel was built in 1933 and extended and renovated in 1995. The hotel is steeped in history. The hotel is still run by several generations of the Skyrianides family whose ancestor built it and they enjoy welcoming guests of all ages to their homely four star hotel....

Platres developed as a popular summer resort a century ago when British Army families serving in Egypt moved to Cyprus in the summer months to avoid the soaring temperatures. Amongst those early visitors, was the novelist Daphne du Maurier - whose husband was serving in Alexandria. It is said that she was so delighted by the leafy shade and tranquillity of the village that she was inspired to write the opening chapters of her best-selling novel Rebecca. Over the years, the hotel has welcomed many famous visitors including King Farouk of Egypt in the 1930s. The King thoroughly enjoyed the mellow taste of Cyprus brandy but of course, because of his religion, could not be seen drinking alcohol in public. The hotel barman created a refreshing lemon cocktail that incorporated Cyprus Brandy but looks like iced tea and today, Brandy Sour is one of the most popular drinks on the island.

More recently, the mountains of the Troodos have become a popular winter destination because although the winter is short, the mountains usually get a good dusting of snow between January and March. The ski resort of Troodos is friendly and relaxed and has four downhill slopes and two cross-country (langlauf) routes. The  ski slopes are within easy access of The Forest Park and the other hotels in Platres which is where most skiers stay.

The added advantage is that it is possible to enjoy breakfast in the hotel amongst the pine trees in Platres and a lunch time dip in the blue waters of the Mediterranean in Limassol which is just Today the hotel has 117 comfortable rooms and several chalets in its grounds. Each room is comfortably furnished in a classical style with views of slender pine trees. Whilst the Forest Park Hotel is comfortable and relaxing
