Every Autumn, the Limassol Wine Festival welcomes more than 15,000 tourists and 2015 looks to be no exception
The festival was first held in 1961 and was organised by the ‘Big Four’ wineries – ETKO, KEO, LOEL and SODAP who wanted to promote their range of wines.
The Cyprus wine festival was based on an Ancient Greek festival held in honour of Dionysos, the god of wine and the annual village celebrations that are still held to mark the end of another successful harvest
The Wine Festival is held in the town’s Municipal Gardens overlooking the Limassol coast and opens early every evening at 7.00 p.m.
Tickets are €6 per adult (including a free bottle of wine)
Teenagers (13 -18) €5
Child (Upto 12) €4
You can buy a plastic wine bottle for €1.50, a wine glass for €1.50 and a wine glass with stem for €2.50 all of which are refillable at various stations throughout the festival.
At the entrance to the Festival stands the large model of a winemaker, resplendent in his traditional vrakas and holding a jug of wine bearing the motto of the festival - Drink wine for a life of ease.
The entrance cost is six euros per adult and entitles the visitor to a complimentary bottle of wine. Limassol wine festival glasses can be bought for a couple of euros and used to taste plenty of wine!
