Plataniskia Village - Limassol
The perfect way to end a day sightseeing is over a tasty meal and the village taverna which is situated in an old stone building is well known by residents for miles around! The food is traditional with a few unexpected twists along the way, for example amongst the usual array of starters you will find prawn stuffed avocado and truly delicious garlic mushrooms (yes your friends do have to order the same!) The main courses range from  chops, sheftalia and a really good mezé to more unusual dishes that are offered as ‘the specials of the day’. The couple that run the taverna, Andreas and Helen worked in restaurants in Manhattan so are undaunted by any special requests and ensure that there is always a fish dish on the menu too and plenty of home grown vegetables. The home made puddings definitely prove that the family lives Stateside, but the wines are local -mainly from nearby Pakhna.

The Plataniskia Tavern is open for lunch and dinner, table

Plataniskia, another top hillside village to visit whilst on your Cyprus holiday. The village is only a short drive from Anoyira
Plataniskia Village

Plataniskia village itself is perfect for a wander as many of its old stone houses are being restored to their former glory and the village offers a spectacular view over the coastline stretching from the Akrotiri peninsula in the east to Evhidmou bay. Plataniskia is located in the Limassol district

. In the past, the village had many lofty plane trees that gave it its name but these have long since gone and in the Middle Ages was a sugar cane growing area administered by the Crusader knights. Today it is still a  farming community but the villagers grow a variety of fruit and vegetables as the demand for the once all-important carobs has dropped due to soaring prices worldwide. Many of the residents commute to work in the major towns but enjoy the tranquility of the village at the weekends.

During the summer months, the village does get busy as Hambis the village’s best known resident and well known engraver organizes popular annual summer schools in his home and studios in the heart of the village. And also regularly organizes group exhibitions to inspire and encourage young artists.
